Girl. Frog. Stuff.

March 29, 2012 in Free Downloads, Graphic Design

Sissy has no fear of animals, insects, reptiles, etc and etc. The wet areas around our house are prime housing for frogs. And Sissy thinks frogs are SSSOOO cute.

She likes to look for frogs. She loves to find frogs. She lives for turning frogs into tiny marionettes, minus strings.

I happened upon this scene. This frog was “pretending” to hop. This makes me smile.

Between frog sightings, I have been working on some projects.

This design was featured on the website Beautifully Rooted and is available as a free 5×7 download.

Brenna Gentry is a photographer from Tennessee and offers  “You send it, I’ll shop it” on Wednesdays on her facebook page. I sent in this photo of sissy and she chose it to edit. It’s was fun to see how another photoshop-aholic edited my photo.

This is an advertisement for a local business that I designed this week. I was also able to take a photo of the building to include in the ad.

Finally, take a minute to view my new portfolio page. There you can see a small sampling of my graphic and web design work.…

The Giraffe is Back in Town (And a Toe Removal)

March 9, 2012 in Free Downloads, Graphic Design

Yesterday, my dear friend pointed out that I did not remove tiny toes at the top edge of the picture. The truth is I never noticed those tiny toes before. I had to remedy that. So now it’s a before and after, and after.

A few weeks ago, I shared some giraffe’s I had sketched and said that I had some plans for them. I decided to turn one of them into a new free downloadable greeting card.

I also created a new free downloads page. Click here to check that out. You can always click the link that appears on the top bar of the website.

And lastly, have you checked out these fun diy/tutorials?

We drink out of Mason Jars often, and they recently featured projects created with Mason Jars. I will now think of what else I could be doing with the jar while I am drinking my strawberry and pink lemonade KoolAid out of it.

P.S. Is it funny that we Mason’s drink from Mason jars? Perhaps. They just happen to stand up to being dropped much better than “regular” glasses, which is the main reason we use them. We have 8 little hands that love to drop glasses, and we’ve had many nice glasses swept into a pile of tiny pieces. (They are also inexpensive. Bonus!)

The Evolution of an Idea

January 30, 2012 in Free Downloads, Graphic Design, Sketchbook

Idea’s never leave me alone.

They bother me when I’m riding in the car and have no pen to record them. They keep me up in the middle of the night after a child wakes me up. They distract me when I should be paying attention.

Sometimes one idea will come, then quickly leave. Other times an idea will stick with me, aggravating me until I create it, or write it or do something about it.

Often, when I am working in my sketchbook, I am thinking of what else I could do with image.

This idea started with a frame that I created and really liked in my sketchbook. I used my sharpie and watercolor brush markers to sketch this.

I took a picture of it and uploaded that to my computer. I used Photoshop and Illustrator to create a vector image. (Visit this website for more information on vectors and bitmaps.)

Once I had the vector image, I used InDesign to add the background, color and text. I ended up with a 5×7 to offer you as a new free download!
