The Black and White Conversion
September 24, 2012 in Photography, Tutorials and DIY
Converting your photos to black and white in Photoshop or another photo editing program can be frustrating. I read this tutorial from Spoon Graphics today, and I decided to try some of the techniques it describes.
I really like what the channel mixer method produced. It seems brighter, and the tonal range is better.
I’d love to hear what you think about these images! If you have a different technique, tell me about it in the comments.

Cute picture. Love the last one too.
great job with the picture… I don’t understand the first thing bout photo editing… but I did once know film and finding the tonal range in the dark room was the hardest!
I always do a gradient map, but I also do a levels adjustment, add an action at around 15% opacity, and usually add a texture. I like the channel mixer look in this one. I have seen it written about before and never tried it. I may have to experiment.
Don’t know a thing about this stuff…but I like the gradient map best with this pic. Cute!
