What Jail Did These Come From?

Last summer, on a trip to Shipshewana’s flea market, I discovered these keys. They are cast iron. They are heavy. (They will dent your wood floor if you drop them–not that I just learned that.) I haggled over the price and purchased them for $8.00. I would have paid more because they are so full of awesomeness, but my nature required I haggle. Every time I look at them, I wonder what they could have been used for before they became eye candy in my home.

When I got home, I knew I wanted to hang them in the entryway, but they needed more than just a plain old hook. I was wandering around outside by the barn and saw a piece of pallet wood that was nice and weathered. Then I was perusing the aisles at Hobby Lobby with my girlfriends and found an antiqued “knob” that I thought would be perfect for this project. (It was on sale for $1.50!)

I enlisted the help of my super handy husband to drill a hole and add the hanger. For less than $10 I now have a great new piece for my entryway.
